About

Meet Dr. Suzanne Sorel.

I am a Board-Certified Music Therapist, Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, educator, and clinical supervisor with over 30 years of experience. I founded and directed the Graduate Music Therapy Program at Molloy University from 2008 to 2024 and have taught and supervised hundreds of music therapists locally, nationally, and internationally.

I hold a bachelor’s degree from SUNY New Paltz and master’s and doctoral degrees from NYU. I have worked in various agencies and treatment centers in the NYC area, with advanced training in Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy, where I am a Level III Certified Trainer.

In my career, I have presented at numerous conferences worldwide, focusing on Nordoff-Robbins therapy, clinical improvisation, and humanistic, evidence-based treatment planning. I authored Becoming a Music-Centered Therapist and contributed to several music therapy textbooks. I am also a composer of music for education and therapy.

I am a parent of two young adult sons: one who identifies as queer and lives with bipolar disorder, and another who was adopted from South Korea. My experiences as a parent have enriched my clinical practice, supervision, and teaching.

As a humanist, I am grounded in a deep respect for the individuals with whom I work. As a music therapist, I strive to understand how musicing has the potential to impact an individual’s life for the better.
